The 2022 BWF World Championship will be known as TotalEnergies BWF World Championship for sponsorship reasons. Founded in 1977 that is 45 years ago, this year will be the 27th edition of the tournament. Japan has been selected as the venue for the 2022 upcoming event which was already declared in 2018 during the announcement of major badminton host countries.

The tournament will be played in the month of August of this year and will be a 7-day long stretch. Every year the tournament is organized in various other host countries and each gets a chance to host the tournament which is decided 2 years beforehand. The BWF Tournament started in 1977 and was played every three years until 1983. Later on, the tournament was organized every two years until 2006 when it became an annual event and was organized every year. There are a total of 18 host countries selected which will get an opportunity to host the event once in their own country.

As of the competition, the GOAT in badminton Lin Dan of China is the most successful player in the BWF World Championship’s history with a total of 5 gold medals followed by Zhao Yunlei and Park Joo-bong who also have 5 gold medals but in different classes, unlike Lin Dan who has medaled in Men’s Singles.
