What is baseball as a sport?

Baseball similarly to cricket is a bat and a ball game that is played among two teams. However, unlike cricket, the team composition has a total of 9 players compared to crickets playing 11. The one who throws the ball is known as the pitcher while the batting side attempts to hit the ball.

The batting side players have to hit the ball away from the fielding players and allow their other players to advance towards a new base out of the total 4 bases to score runs. When a batter covers all four bases in one hit then it is famously known as the Home Run. A run is counted when a player advances through all four bases and reaches the home plate ie where the batter stands.

The objective of the defending team is to prevent the batters from hitting the ball and becoming runners and also prevent the prevailing runners from advancing through all four bases. The defending team is known as the fielding team and the other team is the batting team.

Baseball has its roots in the history of the 18th century in the United Kingdom. The highest governing authority of baseball in the world is World Baseball Softball Confederation. MLB or the Major League Baseball is the biggest professional league in the sport of Baseball.
